Psychiatrist (PSYT) - 1 Day/Week (Thu or Fri) - High Desert State Prison

AvaMed Workforce is hiring a Psychiatrist (PSYT) for a 6-month contract at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, CA (Mental Health STRT, one 8-hour shift per week).

Assignment details

• Location: High Desert State Prison, Susanville, CA
• Dates: 11/23/2026 - 05/30/2027
• Schedule: 1 shift per week, Thursday or Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (7:00 AM-3:00 PM also listed), 30-minute meal
• Unit: Mental Health STRT
• Orientation: 1 day, Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-2:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for the incarcerated patient population
• Manage psychotropic medications and document care accurately
• Collaborate with the mental health treatment team on treatment plans
• Follow all safety, security and contraband procedures

Requirements

• Active California physician license (Medical Board of California or Osteopathic Medical Board of California)
• Board certification or eligibility in psychiatry preferred
• Current BLS
• Correctional, forensic or inpatient psychiatry experience preferred
• Background check and facility security clearance
• TB test, immunizations and facility health clearances
